Honestly, I think it's random selectionApr 07 2011Philosophy
Honestly, I think it's random selection. I was a terrible student until my last two years and my SAT scores were so-so and I got in with scholarships and fanfare. I know kids who nailed 4.0's, were athletes, and/or community activists who didn't even get a nod. They were pissed at me.

4 years of activities coordinator of ACC
2 years of Barista work
100+ hours of community service

I believe that a 3.6 GPA is a good shot for the UW.
Be committed to an extra-curricular activity. (the magic number is 4)
The SAT is a messed up test that Collegeboard makes money off of, but you have to do well. For your own sake.
You don't have to take 11 AP classes. Balance hard classes and a great GPA.

I got good grades, participated in many activities at my school and in the community and I was Captain of every athletic team I participated on.

Focus on the essays, that is where the most emphasis is put. Grades are important (I had a 4.0, so life was a bit easier) but if you can prove you can think outside a classroom environment (test scores, essays, extra activities), this liberal college will take your money in exchange for some sort of degree.
